Beginning sometime in Q4 2025, we will be introducing several updates to how royalties and payouts work on IMVU for Creators in the Earn Money Program. We know changes to earnings can have a real impact, which is why we want to share the details clearly and in advance. These updates are intended to make royalty distribution more consistent, address certain types of abuse, and keep our systems fair and sustainable for the long term.
Hard Cap on Royalty Payouts
We are introducing a 20% royalty cap that applies to all products in the catalog. This cap applies to both derived and original products, ensuring that the cumulative amount paid out to all Creators in a single derivation chain does not exceed 20% of the Catalog Price for a single sale.
This change is designed to support a healthier Creator economy and improve catalog consistency. Currently, some derived products are priced with extremely high markups, resulting in disproportionately large royalties even when only minor or superficial changes have been made. By introducing this cap, we’re creating a more balanced system that rewards creativity while reducing the incentive for zero-change derivations intended solely to maximize profit.
The 20% cap also helps ensure that royalty payouts remain predictable and equitable across the board, promoting sustainability and fairness for all Creators. While Creators who have relied on high markups may see reduced earnings, this update reinforces a shared standard that benefits the overall ecosystem by encouraging quality, originality, and fair pricing practices.
50:50 Credits/Predits Split We are standardizing royalties for mixed-purchase products so that Credits and Predits are distributed evenly across all Creators in the derivation chain.
When a product is purchased using a combination of Credits and Predits, Creators later in the derivation chain often receive their royalties in Credits, while those earlier in the chain, including the original Mesh Creator, receive more of their royalties in Predits.
With this update, the mix of Credits and Predits will be split evenly among everyone in the chain. This change is intended to benefit Creators earlier in the chain and may reduce the amount of Credits received by Creators who derive further along.
Sticker Royalties Discontinued We are discontinuing Sticker royalties to help prevent fraudulent activity. Most Sticker sales that result in Earn Money Program withdrawal requests are linked to activities such as begging, scamming, using alternate accounts to cash out, and other policy violations.
Stickers can still be created and sold for Credits, but they will no longer generate royalties for withdrawal through the Earn Money Program.
Tiered VIP Payout Changes We are updating VIP payout timelines and options for Creators in the Earn Money Program. Business days exclude weekends and U.S. holidays.
Emerald VIP Emerald Creators can withdraw up to their MASA plus an extra 10%, capped at 100 dollars, when their royalty balance exceeds their MASA. They can also request expedited payouts that arrive in 1 to 3 business days for a 2% processing fee. In addition, they can use their royalty balance to pay for Emerald VIP when their balance is below 99 dollars.
Diamond VIP Diamond Creators can withdraw up to their MASA plus an extra 3%, capped at 50 dollars, when their royalty balance exceeds their MASA. They can also request expedited payouts that arrive in 2 to 4 business days for a 5% processing fee.
Platinum VIP Standard payouts for all VIP tiers will now be completed within 5 to 7 business days, with expedited options available for Emerald and Diamond Creators. This change aligns the standard timeline with typical banking and compliance processing so payout timing remains predictable during higher-volume periods
.
We will be monitoring the impact of these updates closely and remain committed to listening to Creator feedback. Your input is an important part of shaping how our systems evolve, and we will use what we hear from the community to guide future improvements and adjustments. Our goal is to ensure the Creator experience continues to grow in ways that are fair, sustainable, and supportive of the work you do.
Update: Please read this update from the CEO.
Royalty Cap Update: Paused and Under Review
Hello, everyone. My name is Rod Chang, CEO of Together Labs, IMVU's parent company. Earlier this week we announced a plan to implement a 20% cap on royalty payouts. The way we shared it made it sound like this was set in stone—and that wasn’t the case. That’s on us, and I want to be clear: we have hit the pause button on the royalty cap to listen to your input.
Our intent was to share the plan early to gather feedback, and we recognize that the way it was communicated left many Creators feeling they did not have a say. I acknowledge that concern and appreciate the candid, detailed feedback you have shared about fairness, incentives, collaboration, and unintended impact across product categories.
Our aim is to address zero-change derivations, extreme markups, and improve pricing consistency while supporting originality.
Your feedback makes clear that the approach we outlined could adversely affect Creators and the freedom with which you choose to create and price your work. As a result, the 20% royalty cap is on hold while we reevaluate solutions, guided by Creator feedback.
We want every Creator to have a voice. Please continue to share specific ideas in this thread and on Discord, including practical approaches to address the underlying concerns. Our commitment is to ensure the royalty program is fair, predictable, and transparent for Creators.
IMVU succeeds when its Creators succeed. Thank you for your passion, your honesty, and your commitment to making IMVU better every day.
Thank you,
Rod

Plz Listen for a moment. This is about the Stickers and Credits Only portion...
This will reduce the experience and cause interference for those who:
Teach others to Create
Payment for Custom Items
Payment for Admissions to "Plays" (role play theaters)
Private room services (role-play medical help, massage, auto-service, etc)
Purchase Collectables (Badges, artwork, etc)
Isn't there another way to accomplish the say objective?

All these comments makes me cry.. I so understand you all because we all are creators... some of us since almost the start (I create since 2007) But if this is an Imvu decision, Imvu rarely changes its mind... I really hope some of the staff is reading all these messages and understands but I don't think so

The lack of respect they've shown us is incredible.
Let's remember that creators are the most important pillar of IMVU; thanks to them, content and creativity are the foundation. Thanks to creators, IMVU users are encouraged to buy and spend time on the platform!
How is it possible that our work is disrespected like this?
I've worked hard; making 3D objects isn't just anything; it takes me days, and I know the same thing happens to all creators. Our effort and work are worth much more.
I completely disagree, as do all creators.

My name is Mayara, I live in Brazil, and I've been a creator since 2014. I confess that for the past 5 years I've been suffering a lot trying to get back on my feet as a creator. I've tried everything to get sales, exposure, showcase entries, influencer status, but nothing changes. My profits are constantly decreasing every month. But I don't give up because this is my REAL job. This is what I do to survive. This is my fight. I'm dependent on this job, which I love, but which can no longer sustain me. And that HURT. Nothing hurts as much as unappreciated work. I hand this whole issue over to God because I no longer know what man is capable of.

IMVU is born in California. Its smell is the sunset perfume of success, freedom and american dream ! Let me suggest you a real business Turning Point:
- Forget about ANY cap and free up the horses of your creator community. You're gonna start to believe again. It's never too late, even in California (oh I know France sucks on that matter for now...).
- Forget about predits and all the weak economy you've created around it. Instead, offer the creators to manage it by taking off all taxes from their giftings of their products. I would even suggest that you create a new GUI to offer them to more easily manage the gifting processes. The creators are the best ones to incentivise a boost of their business because they know their customers.
- Build a new GUI to offer creators to themself place their white listed products. They are the ones that can feel the trend on their own products. Find ways to incentivise creators so they can gain slots for white listing their products. Can you breath the perfume of success from that one ? Fire's coming !
- Gosh if you haven't smelt that woke's far away in the mirror and Christ's comign back, you're gonna have to learn how to pray and trust those who spend their life trying to optimise their success within IMVU. Cause if you're not able to do that and wanna know what's gonna happen in the close future, read Bible Amos 8 v5 to 7. Now don't cry and read again what I suggested.
- IMVU must reach a point where they will be proud of their creator's community because they will not only be the most creative one there is but also because they are going to prosper.

Dear IMVU,
This decision needs to be carefully reconsidered.
We can't talk about "balanced" updates when the most serious problems haven't been resolved.
And now major changes are being introduced without discussion, leaving Creators and users in the dark.
Reading that the basic $9.99 VIP membership falls under this new structure is sobering.
In reality, nothing changes:
no priorities, no quick options, no concrete advantages.
Just a standard timeframe that applies to everyone.
And should we continue to pay for this?
No thanks. It can remain a dream.
We're also at risk of losing our long-time users, and the strike currently underway proves it.
The 20% royalty cap, applied even to original products, doesn't distinguish between copycats and creators.
Those who work with quality, those who create meshes from scratch or custom content, are penalized.
Further reducing earnings, already subject to tax, makes creative work unsustainable.
The 50/50 split between Credits and Predits may make sense in theory, but in practice it reduces the Credits received by Creators, which often accrue later, often to those who curate the aesthetics, presentation, and marketability of the product.
The removal of royalties on stickers, motivated by abuse, also affects those who used them legitimately to promote their work or offer creative content.
Carefully crafted badges, pixel by pixel, risk being excluded simply because of their shape.
A paradox.
If we truly want to improve the Creator experience, we must start with respect.
Clear communications, concrete answers, systems that work.
Holding creators "in the palm of our hand" doesn't mean controlling: it means valuing.
This is not the service many have known and supported for years.
And after all this, it's legitimate to choose where to dedicate one's time.
We're not asking for special treatment.
We're only asking for respect for their work.
Greetings.

I've been a creator for almost 20 years. I've seen IMVU penalize creators continuously, and now this.
I recently came back to imvu after a long hiatus with the wish to start creating again. I have over 3000 products in my catalog, and still only make between 8cents and a dollar a day on average now. What I consider to be a good sale is 20 cents, and even that will be halved considering this update. Now and then someone will purchase an "exclusive custom skin" from my catalog which is already priced higher to limit the amount of purchases. Maybe with this I earn $2 from a sale, which is also not obscene. (guess what IMVU, customers can already decide if they're willing to pay more for a product or not). Creators should also be able to decide how much their time, effort and skill is worth with a reflection in their pricing.
IMVU, remember, the cost of living, inflation, and prices have CHANGED in real life in the last 20 years. Prices in the imvu catalog have to adapt to that too. We can no longer be selling things for only 200cr mark up. In real term cash that equates to very very little, and we were doing that kind of mark up 20 years ago on imvu!! Of COURSE we need to up the cost of our products because 20 years is a long time and things change in the RL economy over that time. You've upped your price of credits, and as creators, we should be allowed to up the cost of our products to reflect that, and TBH, I dont think we've even upped them enough! As creators, we're also considering the cost of our time and energy when decing pricing.
For example a head creator derives from your head product. They put a 500cr mark up because meshing is hard and a great skill, and theyve made a completely unique mesh - that's a lot of work and 500cr is not a lot to ask. As a texture artist, I derive from that product and also do 500cr, because I'm hand painting and drastically altering the product look and making it unique. Still, from this I'm only making 20 cents a sale, after all the fees and tax that IMVU takes. I dont even sell many heads! And you're telling me on that product, that I've spent hours and hours to create it will now be 10 cents a sale.
I am so so so disappointed in IMVU. You've penalised us time and time again. I signed up to IMVU when creating meant you only had to buy your name. You stopped legit credit resellers which made creators take a huge hit. Then there was MASA. In recent years, even as a "Grandfathered" account I now I find I have to pay for VIP whenever I want to cash out. Honestly, THIS update now is the final straw. If you do this, I will quit after 20 years of loyalty, and move to Second Life which I should have probably done years ago.

This HARD CAP idea is by far the BEST joke of the year!
"this update reinforces a shared standard that benefits the overall ecosystem by encouraging quality, originality, and fair pricing practices"
Since when forcing the cap on profits encouraged quality and originality? In real world, instead of 1-2 great products per month you’ll get 10 cheap junks.
I’m used to charge from 500 to 2500 for quick customs and up to 150k for custom, single sale mesh. I can’t even imagine someone telling me how much I should charge for my work… Oh, wait, you just did…
If this nonsense is to take effect - I already see massive shop shutdowns. Good luck putting cap on ZERO.
