Like a lot of you, I was really disappointed when I couldn't run the IMVU Classic Client on my new Apple Silicon Mac. If you've been missing all the features of the full Classic experience, I have great news!

I found a fantastic method that works perfectly, letting you run the Classic Client seamlessly on your desktop, almost like a native Mac app. This guide will walk you through it step-by-step.

What You'll Need

  1. An Apple Silicon Mac (any M1, M2, M3, or newer model).

  2. Parallels Desktop for Mac. It's a paid app, but they offer a free 14-day trial so you can test this out completely risk-free.

  3. The IMVU Classic Client installer for Windows.

Part 1: The Basic Setup

This part is surprisingly easy.

  1. Install Parallels: Go to the Parallels website, download the trial, and install it.

  2. Install Windows: The first time you launch Parallels, it will offer to download and install Windows 11 for you with a single click. Just follow the on-screen instructions. It does everything automatically!

  3. Install IMVU Classic: Once Windows is running on your Mac, open the Microsoft Edge browser inside the Windows environment, go to the official IMVU website, and download the Classic Client installer for Windows. Run the installer just like you normally would.

At this point, you can launch IMVU, but you'll probably notice a big problem...

Part 2: IMPORTANT - How to Fix the "Super Zoomed-In" Look

When you first run IMVU, it will likely look huge and blurry. This is because of your Mac's high-resolution Retina display. Here’s the simple fix:

  1. Shut Down Windows: In Parallels, click the "Actions" menu at the top of your Mac screen and choose "Shut Down." (Don't just suspend it).

  2. Open Configuration: Once it's off, you'll see the Parallels Control Center. Click the little gear icon ⚙️ on your Windows virtual machine to open its settings.

  3. Change Graphics Setting: In the new window, go to the Hardware tab, then click on Graphics in the list.

  4. You'll see a setting for "Resolution." Change it from "Best for Retina" to "Scaled".

  5. Close the configuration window and restart Windows.

This one change tells Parallels to handle the resolution correctly, and IMVU will now look sharp and properly sized.

Part 3: The Magic - Using "Coherence Mode"

This is the best part. You don't have to look at the Windows desktop at all!

  1. Launch the IMVU Classic Client from the Windows Start Menu.

  2. Once it's open, go to the View menu at the very top of your Mac screen (the bar with the Apple logo) and click "Enter Coherence".

  3. The Windows desktop will vanish, and your IMVU Client will now float on your Mac desktop in its own window, just like any other Mac app! You can even keep it in your Dock.

And that's it! You are now running the full-featured IMVU Classic Client perfectly on your modern Mac. I hope this guide helps everyone who's been missing it as much as I have.

Happy creating and chatting!

P.S: You also get notified when people are chatting in the room or something happens with the old animation of the app jumping on the dock!!
