Basically if I change a texture what does that mean?

Hi @ShopElspeth , the discussions can't be used to ask legal questions. We can contact an attorney or surf the web.
In general, if you did not make it from scratch and do not have the real owner's permission..you don't own it. Those who derive can ask the product owner to use their texture however it's for use with the derive only and can't be used on another creator's product regardless of any changes made. It's still the property of the real owner.

Hi @ShopElspeth Anyone who makes their own Texture Material from Scratch "owns" that Texture Material or that product Asset. It is yours if, you have made it from scratch or completely by your own hands and by starting with nothing.
What is Made From Scratch?
We all use "Patterns" as such that are given by the Mesher or Parent Product maker. These may be called "Material Maps" or "UV Maps", etc. The given Maps are a "guide" to make "Scratch Hand Made" Texture Materials. These Materials are our Diffuse, Opacity, Normal and Shinny Maps, etc. that we use on IMVU. All of these should be made from scratch.
What is Not "Made from Scratch"?
Not making from scratch is usually called a "recolor" where someone may change the color of a given Material or Map. Editing a given material is also not made from scratch. If someone Edits a graphic image from anysource (other than their own "hands") to make a Material, it is very questionable and may lead to DMCA. The DMCA issues cannot be discussed further in our Public Discussions. If in doubt, one can contact a legal lawyer for advice
