"Purchased skin texture" sounds... off. Imvu provides free skin textures, which maps you need to understand in order to add anything to them.

Download and read what is available - and search what imvu itself provides for many templates are available for free for creators.

Any other skins out there are based on these for they are specifically maped out for the avatars. Understanding uv-maps is key to most clothes or avatar items ( clothes/skins/accessories etc). Most meshers provide them on their product pages free as well.

Making things work with 3D models is an art form. You have to experiment and play until you get a result you want. A good example for me is when I'm making t-shirts for women. Like this one (pardon the language):

42784385_lifeLesson_tShirtThe design looks relatively straight on the shirt, but I actually distorted it using warping tools in my graphics program, to compensate for the "bulging out" of a woman's chest.

With your tattoo, remember the flat texture is wrapping around the body part, so play with it and experiment until you get a result you like. Don't be afraid to distort or warp your design.

Hi, the best place to get support on a product when creating is from the person who made the mesh. Many times these people have remapped the materials and different UV Maps are required. Also, I recommend you follow the powers of two to minimize stretching.

See my post on making your artwork look it's very best and more on the "Power of Two" located Here: https://help.imvu.com/s/question/0D54p00002Ceqn4/

Skin texture tend to stretch and distort in many areas so that's why on regular skins you see creators tend to avoid adding detailing to certain areas. Your best bet is to derive from derivable tattoos and use their maps for your tattoo, granted it will glitch with certain lighting but the quality you will get is unmatched.
